Planning Your Scrapbook
You’ll find making your scrapbook a whole lot easier if you plan it before you start. This doesn’t have to be a complicated business, however. Spending a little while at the beginning with a pencil and paper will help you to decide on the right materials for your work. It will also speed up the job of choosing what you’re actually going to include!
What’s Your Theme?
The theme of your scrapbook can be simple or complex. It might be a special event such as a birthday, a baby shower, a wedding, Christmas or Halloween. Themes can also be personalized to suit the scrapbook recipient’s special interests. Special interest themes can include favorite colors, sports, favorite television programs, music, the outdoors, or cultural influences.
- What is the overall purpose for your scrapbook?
- Who is the scrapbook for?
- Who is the scrapbook about?
The answers to these three questions are all factors in selecting an appropriate theme. They’ll also give you plenty of scrap book page ideas. For instance, the scrapbook that you give your nephew as he graduates from medical school is probably completely different from the grandparent’s book that you send to your mother. Your nephew will probably appreciate a scrapbook with photographs, poems, journals and more masculine embellishments. Perhaps the theme of the scrapbook could be medicine. You could create decorations that look like scalpels and tweezers around various pictures of your nephew during his college years.
Your mother, on the other hand, will love a family wedding scrapbook, or perhaps a selection of baby pictures fancifully decorated with flowers, ribbon, and baby fingerprints. Photographs could include baby and grandma with the baby. A journal about your baby’s day could also add an interesting touch.
Deciding on your scrap book theme is an important first step. You’ll probably find you have loads of good ideas - enough perhaps to plan your next two or three scrapbooks as well!
